I found this recipe (Recipies from a Pantry by Bintu) a while ago and have been wanting to give it a try. I am surrounded by neighbors that have apple tree, perhaps I have mentioned this before…
The ones behind us have squat apples, mostly light red and generally the squirrels abscond with the bounty before they are even worth eating. This year, there was branch that hangs in the alley and I could see 2 perfect specimens as i would drive into the garage… I grabbed them and on the counter they sat…

Finally I decided this recipe was the one to try them with!
I enjoyed the ease with which this came together. I have a double drawer air fryer and found trying to get them lined up at 1/3 a cup of batter was too difficult, even with silicone baskets. I would use a large cookie scoop in the future.
Air Fryer Apple Fritters
Notes
the middle will be gooie when you flip them
Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch ground nutmeg
- pinch ground cardamom optional
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup almond milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 apples peeled, cored and chopped tiny
- cooking spray or oil for brushing
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar and spices in a mixing bowl.
- Add the eggs, milk and vanilla extract, whisking to combine.
- Stir in the apples; the dough should hold together.
- Measure out around large cookie scooper for each fritter, and add to the basket of the air fryer. Making sure to leave space in between. Spray or brush the fritters with oil, then fry for 6-8 minutes.
- Flip the apple fritters, spray or brush the other side with oil the and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
Verdict:
A larger air fryer basket might work better for this recipe.
Having a double basket means maybe 2 large or 4-5 small.
Spray the silicone – i suggest the silicone so the fritters don’t fall between the grates, I might try parchment next time.
I sprayed the tops with butter evoo, on initial entry and on flip.
We would add salt in the future, salted butter does the trick as well! Reheats well in the microwave!
Tasty and not terrible calorie wise.
If you try these let me know what you think!
