I mentioned in the last recipe that I had some free beer and I needed to find some recipes to make with it!
This morning i was in the mood for some crumpets, unfortunately i wanted something to eat – immediately… Then i thought about confirming the pancake mix i had made for a camping trip as i’ll be making them for the fam on a trip in june, and then i thought — hmm… can one make pancakes with beer? To the interwebs it went and whala – there were a number of recipes. Many had an innordinate amount of sugar… When i compared to my original recipe (which i just realized, i never posted) we only needed a couple tablespoons to be sufficient. After a bit more digging i found this one and was excited to get going on it.
The recipe is made for camping, but nothing said you couldn’t be at home!

Beer Pancakes
Notes
It will smell and taste a bit like the beer you used. Cover with peanutbutter and syrup and it tastes and smells just fine.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Liquid Ingredients
- ¼ cup canola oil
- 12-ounce can light beer*
Instructions
- Heat your pan/griddle over medium heat and coat with butter or cooking spray.
- Mix the dry ingredients together
- Add the beer* and canola oil to the dry ingredients.
- Mix up all the ingredients. A few lumps are okay, just make sure to wet all of the dry ingredients.
- Use a 1/4 cup to place pancakes on the heated griddle
- Let the pancake cook on one side until the batter on top starts to bubble, and then use the spatula to flip it onto the other side to complete cooking.
- This is usually about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Option: Feel free to add your favorite local fruit or chocolate chips before flipping over!
Verdict:
Nice and easy way to create pancakes with dragging along milk and eggs!
The weird smell of beer and a little after taste is a bit weird.
It was a fun experiment and a nice way to use beer that i would not normally drink..
