Recently I was informed that my cholesterol was too high. I needed work on more fiber and focus more on a mediterranean diet. I had some bran flakes from another recipe in the pantry and decided to see about a bread recipe!
This recipe showed a high amount of fiber grams so yeah, good for you bread, maybe?
Wheat Bran Bread Recipe

Ingredients
- 1½ cup Wheat Bran 100 grams
- 1½ cup Wheat Flour 180 grams
- 2+1 cup All Purpose Flour (420 grams)
- 1 tbsp Dry Yeast
- 3 tbsp Honey
- 3 tbsp Oil
- 2 cups Warm Water 480 ml
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Add Yeast to a bowl, add in ¼ cup of warm water, add in honey and let it sit for 5 mins.
- Add wheat bran to another bowl, add in the remaining warm water and mix well. Let it sit for 5 mins.
- Add in oil, yeast water, wheat flour, 2 cups of flour and mix well. Give it a good mix. The dough will be very sticky.
- Now cover this with a plate and let it rest somewhere warm till it doubles in size, atleast 1 hour.
- After it has risen, add in remaining 1.5 cup of flour and knead well. The dough will be still sticky but little elastic.
- Oil 2 loaf pans really well, spoon the dough in it and smooth the top.
- Now let it rest for 30 to 45 mins in a warm place.
- During the last 10 mins of rising. Preheat oven to 390 degree F.
- Now place the pan into the oven and bake for 15 mins in 390 degree F. After that reduce the temp to 350 degree F and bake for 20 to 25 mins further.
- Now remove it and remove the loaf from pan.,let it cool on a wire rack.
- Once it is cooled, slice and serve.
Verdict: The original recipe indicted the end result was a single loaf. That would be a heck of a loaf. The batter went to the top of my pan, so i split it into 2. The option is yours!
It is a bit tough and rich, so best toasted vs as a sandwich.
