originally for the crockpot, but we recently bought a ninja air fryer and decided maybe putting the chicken in that would be an interesting way to change up this recipe and have it be a quicker way to cook it up.
We found the hoisin to make the resulting outcome to sweet, but combined with some nice fried rice, it all rounded out perfectly!
General Tso’s Chicken
1/2 the chicken breast slices
1 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into one inch cubes
2 tbl cornstarch
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1 T soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2-4 cloves garlic, minced
1.5 Tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1/8 tsp dry ginger
½ – 1 tsp crushed red pepper (more or less to liking)
In a small pan whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, ginger and crushed red pepper. Bring to boil and then simmer for 15-20 min until is thickens
In a mixing bowl add the chicken and cornstarch. Toss until the chicken is completely coated in the cornstarch
Heat air fryer to 350
Spray the air fryer bin with cooking spray
Place chicken in a single layer
Cook for 12 minutes, shaking after the chicken starts to crisp.
Once the chicken is done, toss in the sauce and enjoy.
Air frying the chicken was amazing and crispy! The sauce was a bit sweet but was great on the chicken!
